Version 2.4
Based on:
    RUP Version: 7.0.1
    Business Modeling Version: 3.0

Content

This Service-Oriented Modeling and Architecture (SOMA) plug-in builds on top of Classic Rational Unified Process (RUP), adding guidance for the Software Architect and Designer in developing Service-Oriented Solutions.  This plug-in is based upon the version 2.0 RUP plug-in for SOA but has been extensively enhanced to incorporate content from the Service-Oriented Modeling and Architecture method developed by IBM Global Business Services.

The following diagram, which is explained in depth in Whitepaper: The RUP Update for Service-Oriented Architecture describes a method neutral set of activities required of any process for the development of service-oriented solutions. This conceptual process was common to both the RUP for SOA plug-in and the SOMA method and allowed for a relatively simple integration of the two content models.

 Method Overview

This plug-in also provides the connection between business modeling and service modeling.  Many SOA projects use business process models to understand the business, functional requirements and the services required to support a process. For more information on this plug-in, see the Whitepaper: The RUP Update for Service-Oriented Architecture and the Roadmap: Transitioning from IBM SOMA.
